So you want to cut up and duct tape a commercially available thermos and try to pass it off as something you made yourself?

If you cut up and tape a commercially available thermos, it's no longer commercially viable, so it's no longer commercial. LOGIC.
(e.g. if you do that, you basically destroy it so much it doesn't even matter anymore if it was commercial)

That sounds pretty sketchy to me and doesn't seem to have much of a point

It also sounds like interpreting the rules so you have an unfair advantage

any tips on getting my k constant lower. I didn't really focus on the build until now, and I realized how terrible my box is at retaining heat lol. I don't really want to build a whole new box, so is there any materials I can add to the box to help it retain heat better?
edit - i use that purple foam stuff and balsa wood
Keep on going :)

A - Wood isnt the best, try replacing it with styrofoam
B - More layers are better than less.
More info on how your box was built could help me get a better understanding on how it could be improved, though.

The whole interior is just foam. I used really thick foam and used 3 layers of it and stuck it together. 1/4 in of balsa wood is used on the outside so that when the proctors measure our device, there won't be some foam just sticking out to get us disqualified.
Keep on going :)
