Div 5 Events

Post by JoeyC »

Here we'll be investigating the mythical division rumored to be even higher than div D, div 5. - namely their events.
For this, type the event name and its topic.
I'll start us off with an event confirmed by John Richardsim, who is definitely in div 5.

Sharknado - An upgrade to bottle rocket, investigates the possibilities of rocket propelled warheads to turn destroy tornadoes before they can happen.

Buggy Buggy: Competitors must make a moon rover constructed only from material made of bugs of order Hemiptera. This event takes place at the same time as the Combustible rocket event where it is launched to and tested on the moon.

Electronics Lab: Teams must successfully solder a 128x128 BGA chip, by hand, without flux. A bonus is awarded to teams that can also successfully solder a PL-259 connector (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UHF_connector) without burning themselves. Testing component is based on microstrip filter and transmission line design, 3D smith charts, and memristor fabrication.

Radio Lab: Teams must successfully conduct Earth-Venus-Earth (EVE) communication using only coconuts as a power source. Scoring is based on number of simultaneous Super Smash Bros Ultimate online multiplayer games that can be successfully conveyed through the link.

Nuclear Rocket: Teams must build a nuclear salt-water or nuclear pulse rocket (eg Orion) and successfully launch it. Points will be deducted for each civillian casualty. Grading will be based on delta-v and payload mass, as well as number of nuclear test ban treaties voided.

Write it Do It: The same as regular WIDI.

Crime: Teams are judged on their ability to commit crimes and subvert the United State legal system through pre-build and on-site criminal activities. Scores from both sections are weighed equally to determine the winner, with medaling teams being granted a federal pardon, while the remaining teams are prosecuted for their crimes.

Pre-Build: Prior to the competition, teams should commit a crime of their choice and keep detailed documentation of their process and methodology for doing so. On tournament day, teams will impound evidence that they committed the crime, along with a handwritten and signed admission of guilt. Teams will then be judged on severity of the crime, legal precedence, and prospective jail-time to be served. Example pre-builds include:
  • International art theft and/or forgery, with additional credit for successful subsequent auctioning of said artwork
  • Successfully toppling the regime of a foreign nation, with more credit given for polities of higher population
On-Site: During the competition, competitors have 50 minutes to perpetrate a crime to be announced on-site. Teams in the following Division C Forensics sessions will then attempt to determine which team committed the crime. The on-site component is scored based on both how successful teams were in committing the crime, as well as how many of the Forensics teams successfully deduce that they committed the crime. Example on-site tasks include:
  • Jaywalking the longest distance
  • Selling the Eiffel tower as many times as possible
