Scioly.org Monthly Event Challenges: October 2020

We are announcing Scioly.org's third Scioly.org Monthly Event Challenges, running from Friday, October 23rd to Monday, October 26th, opening and closing at the same time: 3:00 PM ET / 12:00 PM PT.

We will go back to the 2 solo events, all through Scilympiad, and one partner event, Write it CAD It. We will run Machines and Lean Mean Meme Machine solo. You will need to register in advance for each of the three events in order to participate.

• Write It CAD It will use the 2021 official trial event rules available from the Science Olympiad Website.
• Machines will use the 2021 rules available from the Science Olympiad Store.
• Lean Mean Meme Machine will use the MIT Trial event rules here.

Timeline: All times on days will be 3:00 PM ET / 12:00 PM PT.

• October 13th - Registration opens! Registration is through Google Forms, and you will login through Scilympiad later (instructions will be provided)
• October 20th - Registration for SMEC closes. We will not be accepting late registrations for Scilympiad.
• October 21st - Emails will be sent out containing instructions for Scilympiad logins.
• October 23rd - Event starts!
• October 26th - Event ends!
• October 28th - Results released.

SMEC FAQs

• May students in college compete?
  Yes. Students must be 13 years of age or older, and must be in middle school, high school or college. Post-collegiate students MAY compete. Only participants located in the United States may register for this event.

• Will there be prizes?
  As of the date of this posting, there will not be any prizes for this month's Scioly.org Monthly Event Challenges.

• What do I do if I have trouble accessing the Scilympiad system, before or during my test?
  Contact sciolyperson1 via message on the Forums or by email. If you have questions about the event as a whole, contact bernard on Forums or by email.

• What events will be held in future SMECs?
  Future SMECs will include an event rotation consisting of present and past events. Stay tuned to find out!

• Do I have to participate in Science Olympiad at my own school/homeschool in order to participate in this event?
  No! The only requirement is a Scioly.org account.

WICI will use FreeCAD. It is available to download at https://www.freecadweb.org/. Only the doer will need to have the software downloaded.

Only the writer need to access Scilympiad for WICI. The writer will start the test and will give them a link to the screenshots of the model and the FCStd FreeCAD model file. It is up to the writer to email the supervisor and the doer 25 minutes after starting with their pdf, google doc, or Word document with their instructions as well as the FreeCAD model for the writer. 20 minutes after the instructions are received, the doer should email their model to the event supervisor.

If sample screenshots or sample CAD files are needed, the BEARSO Events document has links to both.

LMMM's prebuild topic is Scioly.org. The on-site build will still be run; it will be due a maximum of 5 minutes after you have taken the test (through a google forms link linked in the test).

Machines has no build portion (for obvious reasons).

Due to feedback from participants, we will be extending testing time to Thursday, October 29th 3:00 PM ET / 12:00 PM PT. Future SMEC events will likely last one week long in order to accommodate for invitationals and other competitions which typically occur on weekends.
