So my team was planning on using a FSR to measure, but since we can't find one big enough, we need to add a container that balances on the FSR.

Is this against the rules? The rules say "fundamental electronic components", so does that mean it excludes things like: a platform to attach everything on, the previously mentioned container, and weights (to weigh down the FSR)?

Things like passive structures are not part of "the sensor". Your proposal would be legal.
