My kid's team(2) built a PVC tubes xylophone.

Can they use 2 different mallet like objects for the invitational? kid1 will use one mallet for pitch testing and kid2 will use a different mallet for playing the song. Thanks in advance.

Rule 3e. Devices must use the same sound-producing components for all portions of the competition.

I'd include strikers for a percussive instrument as "sound-producing components", and think not. Some ES might decide that this was OK, but I wouldn't risk it.
