I am not sure how to type in these forums but what do these numbers entail again after the rock or mineral on the list? I don't remember this being the way the list was set up in the past.

The 2014 list was arranged in alphabetical order within each category (minerals, metamorphic rocks, igenous rocks, and sedimentary rocks). The 2017 list preserves the numbers from the 2014 list despite the different order.

I still use the old list because i find it easier to find things when they are alphabetized but that just me.

I personally liked them better alphabetically too, I feel like it was easier to find things. The new list also removes a level of complexity by just telling you the groups instead of making sure you know them.
2009 events:
Fossils: 1st @ reg. 3rd @ states (stupid dinosaurs...) 5th @ nats.
Dynamic: 1st @ reg. 19thish @ states, 18th @ nats
Herpetology (NOT the study of herpes): NA
Enviro Chem: 39th @ states =(
Cell Bio: 9th @ reg. 18th @ nats
Remote: 6th @ states 3rd @ Nats
Ecology: 5th @ Nats

I hope I have the old list somewhere, I think I am still more accustomed to that list than I am to the new one. It took me a few moments to scan through the list to make sure no new minerals or rocks were added or removed.

There is no part of Rocks & Minerals that features a Lab Event. All that happens is that you get a rock/mineral and you have to answer questions.

I think Tailsfan meant that it's a station event. In that case, yes.

The 2018 list says that the 'specimen numbers' are the same as in their Rock and Mineral Kit (to be sold at Wards science). We haven't used an official kit, so going by the footnote only.

The numbers are specimen numbers and the numbering of the minerals in alphabetical order (with orthoclase being "f" for feldspar and the quartz being after pyrite).

What specific categories do you need to add in your binder under each type of rocks and minerals? Would it be categories like common uses, chemical composition, type of group etc.?
