Dominance comes from effort, and as a result, a team that puts most of its effort in mathcounts, like for example, Kennedy, will probably do worse in scioly, as their time has been mostly been put into mathcounts and no so much into scioly. I can tell you for sure that my school puts a lot more effort into scioly compared to mathcounts, but different schools value different competitions more.

Also, @TheChiScientist, are you from Hinsdale or Waubonsie?

Very true, dedication skill. Still, UCLab seemed to put a lot of effort into trying to beat KJHS, which they didn't (sorry Peter Pu*). So how much ammunition do they have coming at us for SciOly?

*I actually got to meet Peter Pu (@ppu on AoPS) irl, by coincidence because of countdown. I also got to meet the Illinois #1 overall and in CD (@rainbow10 on AoPS). MATHCOUNTS states was awesome (and I even got 4th in CD).

It’s great to see people do both scioly and mathcounts. Personally, I spend a lot more time on scioly which is evident in the results that my school has at both tournaments. However, although it may seem like my school spent a lot of time on mathcounts based off of our results, at the end of the day, we spend much more time on scioly. I wouldn’t underestimate UCLab because the people who do mathcounts and scioly are not necessarily the same people, so they still may have quite a few very talented individuals who focus their time on scioly and not mathcounts.

It appears you are missing quite a few div B teams I would rank rather highly (e.g. Grayslake). Would you mind updating the choices or making it typed entries?

Or just include all of the teams.

The rules are essentially the same as Unome's Georgia ones. It'll close on Friday, April 20th, probably around 8 pm CT time so I have time to compile and post the final collective rankings.

Rules:
  • One entry per user; if you want to edit your entry, submit a second ranking and your first ranking will be discarded.
  • Where entries include a team twice, the second listing of the team will be discarded and replaced by the highest consensus team not chosen by the user.
  • Any entries that include a team thrice or more, or any entries that have enough egregious omissions to be considered troll entries, will be discarded.
  • Scoring is as follows: 5 for getting a team in its correct spot, 4 for being 1 place off, and so on down to 1 point for being 4 or more places off. Guesses that did not place in the top 10 will be worth 0 points.
  • The overall winner will be the user who gets the most points combined in B and C. You have nothing to lose by entering both, even if you know nothing about the other division. Just guess, you may be surprised!

For those new-ish to predictions, look back on the state predicts and regional results in this very forum.

Good luck!

Div. B is now updated to include Grayslake :D If I missed any more schools please PM me their names and I'll add them in.

Hey could you check the "let people edit response" box in the options too? Thanks! That way you don't get swamped with submissions.

I'm trying to sit out of detailed predictions this season because reasons, but consider the following: I feel Hinsdale Central's performance is way down this season. I expect them to fall in the 7-9 range. The rest is bound to be interesting. B is pretty straightforward, though.

At quick glance, I see Latin absent from the B dropdown.

Seeing how many people on the ISO forums will arrive at state the day before I suggest we meet up on the 20th if you are not available on the 21st? Seeing how some people cannot meet during the competition *cough*Jibriel*cough* ;)

Based off of what people are marking as their free times at state I suggest those that can meet up join us outside of the Illini Union @ 2 PM :D
If not we can hopefully meet up at a later or earlier and talk :)

Hi everyone!

I wrote an iPhone app (sorry Android people :/) for the Illinois State Tournament and just wanted advertise it here. You get a built-in map with locations, a personalizable schedule based on your school and events, and a browser with quick links to the tournament website and Avogadro.

Unfortunately, the folks at ISO said they would be unable to give me homeroom information or self-scheduled event timetables, but most of the rest of the info is there.

I'm super hyped for Saturday!!!
