What is the difference between this and past events such as Wright stuff?

I'm really bad in understanding rules so it would be helpful if someone could tell me the difference.
2022 events: Mousetrap Vehicle 1st place state
2023 events: Bridge 1st place regionals

i believe wright stuff was just monoplanes or biplanes, with the design (wingspan, etc.) being pretty much already stated in the rules.
flight allows you to build any rubber powered aircraft as long as it fits in the box and complies with the other guidelines (elg, helicopter, ornithopter, etc.)
its pretty much just like a big combination of all of the free flight events

this allows for more experimentation with design or other aspects of free flight (though kits are pretty similar anyway)

In terms of the overall rules, the major chane is that the dimensions of the plane are regulated purely by the check-in box rather than set airframe parameters, making things much more open ended. The minimum weight, rubber motor restriction, and lack of any propeller restrictions, however, constrain the optimal solutions very strongly. Namely, the optimal solutions all align the plane along the longest dimension of the box. Attempts to maximize wingspan by setting the fuselage along the width of the box result in models with insufficient pitch damping so that they are nearly impossible to fly well. You can, however, tilt the wing to allow more wingspan, and that works out very nicely. Both Div B and Div C planes are capable of over 3 minutes in basic configurations. Some designs don't deliver this, and that is perfectly fine if you're new to flying because your focus needs to be on learning to fly, not on putting up monster flight times.

No real difference between Flight and Wright Stuff, other than national organization is trying to move away from what they consider 'clever' names.
The change in how we measure the planes would have happened whether the name changed or not.
Oh, and theoretically, a flying wing design should be even better, though yes DIFFICULT to trim. As Maxout said, unless you can already build and fly these planes to 3 minutes, your focus should be on a basic, good flying plane. Frankly that will win most regionals and many state tournaments. It will even do well at nationals, though first place MIGHT be challenging.
