School: John B. Connally High School

Location: Austin, TX (Pflugerville)

Division: C

Years: 3

Awards: Texas State Champion 2000

John B. Connally High School is a relatively new high school built within the city limits of Austin, Texas in the Pflugerville independent school district. Although Science Olympiad is somewhat new to the school, it is certainly not new to these coaches and seniors.

This team is dedicated head coach Colleen Moore came from the former Texas State Champion middle school of Westview. Other coaches include Julia Hsu, a biology teacher, and Bill Humphries, a math teacher. Brigham Rees, a parent of a former Science Olympian remains active and dedicated to the team as?the engineering coordinator even after his children had graduated from the program. Many of the seniors on the Connally High School team now have been on the team since middle school and coached by the same person for 7 years. With such high credentials, Connally High is destined to a great performance in Texas this year.

This team's "government" consists of a President, a Vice-President, a Secretary, and a Treasurer. In addition to that, there are also Department Heads and a Spirit Leader.

Connally High's Science Olympiad team practices Monday afternoons on a weekly basis, while individual event practices are held daily. They also have Saturday practices.

When not being serious about studying, the team has activities to build on their camaraderie. Team outings include laser-tag, movies, parties, paintball, community service... Team member Vinh Do comments, "It's like an extended family."
