The Division B State Tournament was held at UW-Oshkosh. At this tournament Platteville Middle School won the state title for the second consecutive year and second time overall. North Crawford Middle School finished as the state runner-up for the first time in school history. Morse Middle School earned the third place trophy for the first time in school history, smashing a 12 year streak of top two finishes at the state tournament.
The Division C State Tournament was held at Ripon College. Pittsville High School shocked the entire state of Wisconsin by being the first (and subsequently only) small school to ever win the state tournament title. Madison West High School earned the state runner-up trophy for the second consecutive year. Washington Park High School finished as the third place team for the second time in school history, falling back from the state championship earned the previous year.
The top team in each division qualified for the 1999 National Tournament.
There were no regional tournaments for Division B in Wisconsin until 2010.
There were no regional tournaments for Division C in Wisconsin until 2004.
