A State Tournament is a qualification tournament for the National Tournament. Teams qualify for the State Tournament by placing well in their Regional Tournament, in which bids are assigned to the top teams in each regional. Depending on the number of teams in each state, they will be allocated either one or two bids to Nationals. As of the 2019-2020 season, there were 52 state tournaments—California is divided into Northern California and Southern California, and the District of Columbia has its own tournament.
