The 2017 Pennsylvania State Competition was held at Juniata College on April 29, 2017.

In Division B, Springhouse Middle School won their third consecutive state title, with their score of 72 making the lowest score in the 21st century for any Division B team. Shady Side Academy Middle School returned to the national tournament by placing second, defeating Eagle View Middle School by 25 points. It was Eagle View's highest placement in school history, the highest placement by a team from the Central Regional since 2004, and the best score by a Central Regional team since State College Junior High School's dominant teams of the 1990's.

In Division C, Harriton High School set a modern record for lowest states score in Pennsylvania with 39 points. They placed top 4 in all 23 events, including 14 gold medals. They defeated second-place Bayard Rustin High School by 102 points, marking the largest margin between first and second place in Pennsylvania in either division since Harriton's 131-point victory over State College Area High School, Fleetwood Area High School, and Penncrest High School in 2002.

The tournament saw a furious race for second place, with Bayard Rustin High School, Lower Merion High School, Penncrest High School, Conestoga High School, and Shady Side Academy High School all earning between 13 and 16 medals. In the end, Rustin overcame a 34th place in Towers by finishing in the top ten in every other event, defeating third-place Lower Merion by 18 points. Their second-place finish yielded their third consecutive appearance at the national tournament.
