Albuquerque Area Home Schoolers are a team that competes in both B and C Division in New Mexico.

Team History

The New Mexico-based Albuquerque Area Home Schoolers have been participating in Science Olympiad since the 2004-2005 competitions, when Linda Walkup organized a group of ten home schoolers into a middle school team to provide science enrichment and opportunity for her daughter and other science-minded home schoolers. Encouraged by their success in the ten events they participated in, the next year they stretched their team of ten to do all 23 events the next year, and somehow won the state competition. The middle school team has continued to do well, finishing first or second at state for the last eleven years. A high school team was formed partly from the former middle school team members for the 2008 Science Olympiad, and has continued to improve, placing fifth, then third, then second place in 2010-2013. Both the high school and middle school teams won first place at state in 2014, 2016 and 2018.

National medals

The middle school team got a first place medal in Mission Possible in 2013, third place medal in Mission Possible and fourth place medal in Reach for the Stars in 2012. In 2014, the high school team got a second place medal in Rocks and Minerals, a second place medal in Game On, and a sixth place medal in Hydrogeology. In 2016, the middle school team won second place in Mission Possible. In 2017, the middle school team earned a second place finish in Scrambler. In 2018, the middle school team earned second place in Anatomy and Physiology and Wright Stuff, and fourth place in Mystery Architecture, and the high school team earned first place in Helicopters and sixth place in Herpetology.

The middle school team has competed at Nationals now for eight consecutive years, and ten out of the last eleven years.
