Blue Valley North High School
Blue Valley North High School is a Division C team located in Overland Park, in the Northeast Region of Kansas. The team was founded in October of 2016 — it officially registered with the state of Kansas on October 17, and hosted its first meeting on October 20. In their second season, they qualified for the 2018 National Tournament after winning the State tournament with a record score of 60 points. They again qualified for the 2019 National Tournament, winning State with 69 points.
Two middle schools feed into Blue Valley North: Leawood Middle School and Overland Trail Middle School.
Blue Valley North also had a team for part of the early 2000s. In 2003, they came in 13th at State. There is little to no other information about its performance or history.
Background
Blue Valley North's Science Olympiad team was founded by SOnerd during her sophomore year. The team was established in 2016 and since then has been entirely student-run. Membership at BVN has remained fairly constant during its 4 years of existence, typically hovering between 40 and 50 students.
Blue Valley North quickly became friendly rivals with Olathe North High School, an extension on the old rivalry between Leawood Middle School and California Trail Middle School. In the 2018 season, BVN claimed the state record with 60 points and ended Olathe North's 6-year long winning streak.

2017-2018 Season
The 2018 season started fairly strong, with promising performance leaning towards a better season than 2017. The program had also gained more traction within the school. BVN attended two more invitationals and placed better in all three that they returned to. At Regionals, the once again placed first. At State, Blue Valley North won overwhelmingly, beating the 2nd place team by 57 points and setting a new state record score of 60 points. Additionally, they placed in the top six (by Kansas standards, a medal/ribbon) in every event. At Nationals, BVN was in the middle of the pack at 33rd place. However, they did medal in one event, Herpetology (3rd Place).

2018-2019 Season
The 2019 season was much like the 2018 season — BVN attended five invitationals, ranking consistently in the top 5 places, and went on to claim first place at the State Tournament. Although they did not beat their previous season's record of 60 points, they placed 31st at Nationals, two ranks higher than 2018, albeit with 21 more points. Additionally, they had medalists in Herpetology (1st Place) and Dynamic Planet (6th Place).

2019-2020 Season
The 2020 season was very sparse in regard to the number of tournaments. While BVN typically attends 5 invitationals per year, only two complete ones were successfully hosted — the O-Town Throwdown in November and Pembroke Hill Invitational in January. Additionally, the informal Eagles Mini-Tournament was held to make up for the lack of competition in the weeks leading up to Regionals.
The ThunderKat Klash and Warrensburg Invitational were unexpectedly cancelled this season, while the Northland Invitational snowed out twice (and ultimately cancelled). The State and National tournaments were also cancelled due to the 2019-20 Coronavirus outbreak.
