Our virtual year starts with a new generation of members (all of whom have never seen a states tournament before). Despite the trials of virtual tournaments and online meetings, our teams form a stronger community than ever. Throughout the year we go on to notably place 9th at the Princeton Invitational (tied with our highest placement from 2019). Later on, we went on to place 2nd at our regional tournament and win 1st at the state tournament, qualifying for the 2021 Arizona State University National Tournament! Big thanks to River Hill for competing with us this year! We end off our socially-distanced year in the pandemic strong placing 26th overall and 2nd place in Write it CAD it at nationals.

The teams at Centennial were excited to be back in-person until our invitationals were changed back to remote/satellite due to COVID. In our satellite tournaments, we placed 7th in the Cornell Satellite Division, 9th at the Princeton invitational, 18th at the 6th Penn Invitational. With our team stronger than ever, we won 1st at our regionals tournament for the first time in 3 years and proceeded to win 1st at the Maryland State Tournament, making nationals for the 6th time in a row. Additionally, our B team placed 2nd at regionals ahead of our rival River Hill, marking the first time in Centennial history where our two teams placed top two in the region. At nationals, Centennial placed 27th, with top 10 placements in Dynamic Planet (10th) and Forensics (9th). We also placed 3rd in the Cybersecurity trial event.

History

2012

We qualified for the 2012 National Competition following our success at the 2012 Maryland Tournament, defeating Walter Johnson High School by one point. We placed 29th overall and placed in the top 10 for 3 events: Chemistry Lab, Helicopters, and Remote Sensing.

2013

We qualified for the 2013 National Tournament at Wright State University, placing 19th overall. We placed 2nd in Circuit Lab, 3rd in Remote Sensing, and 4th in Chem Lab, with top 10 finishes in 3 other events.

2016

After placing 2nd in 2014 and 3rd in 2015 in Maryland, Centennial qualified again for the 2016 National Tournament. They placed 32nd overall.

All hail the Grand Battery.

2017

Centennial qualified again for the 2017 Wright State National Tournament. They placed 36th overall, and placed 4th for Chemistry Lab.

2018

Centennial placed 1st at states and qualified for Nationals at Colorado State University. Overall, they placed 29th and--our proudest achievement--9th in Codebusters.

To our coach's eternal suffering, the majority of the team became flat earthers this year #FLATEARTHTRUTH

2019

Centennial placed 1st at the state tournament and qualified for the 2019 Cornell National Tournament. Thanks to our fierce competitors River Hill and Richard Montgomery for keeping us on our toes this year! Our goal this year is to beat our school's best placement of 19th place! As a means to preserve continuity, the team placed the same as the previous year- 29th but this time with a 1st place in a Trial event.
