Electric Wright Stuff is a Division C trial event at the 2017 National Tournament. It involves an airplane that must fly using a motor powered by a capacitor. In general, the capacitor provides the energy to help the airplane fly toward the ceiling of the room it is in, and then the plane uses its height to stay aloft for as long as possible.

This event was also a Division B trial event at the 2011 National Tournament under the name Wright Stuff Capacitor.

## What do you need for Electric Wright Stuff?

For E-Wright Stuff(Electric Wright Stuff) you need to understand the principals of aerodynamics. If you have done Wright Stuff or Elastic Launched Glider as a previous event you should have a good idea where to start. If you are new to this event then you should learn how airplanes work. It really helps.

### Priciples of Aerodynamics

How an Airplane Works.

As you can see by the image depicted on the right, planes work due to four core concepts. They are Thrust, Lift, Weight, and Drag. To get a successful E-Wright Stuff plane to work you need to find the correct ratio for all four concepts of Thrust, Lift, Weight, and Drag. If you have too much or too little of one or the other, your E-Wright Stuff plane can fail catastrophically.

#### Lift

Lift of a plane wing.

Lift is the most important part of your E-Wright Stuff. As seen in the picture to your right you can see how lift works on a place. When building your wings you should aim for a teardrop shape or a shape of similar properties as it can ensure that lift occurs. Trial and error will help you find what works for your given plane.

#### Weight

If your plane weights too much then the amount of thrust and lift needed for flying increase. To help resolve this problem you are better off using light balsawood for your plane and reduce any unnecessary weight. Keeping your plane light can assure that it can fly and not crash and burn.

#### Thrust

Thrust is given to your E-Wright Stuff by a small capacitor that powers a motor contrary to wright Stuff, where a rubber band powers it. This is where Electric Wright Stuff gets its name.

#### Drag

Drag is your main enemy in this event. The more drag your plane has, the more energy it takes for your plane to move. When adding a back rotor keep note of this.
