As of 2017/2018 the [[Windward Regional]] was discontinued and replaced by the [[UH Manoa Regional]]. The [[Highlands Regional]] was introduced in 2018/2019 to meet the increasing amount of Oahu teams. There are four major Science Olympiad Islands in Hawaii, being Maui, Hawaii, Kauai, and Oahu. Oahu holds 3 regionals whilst the other 3 hold 1 each, most of them at their respective UH or Community College campuses. Due to the lack of regional regionals (competitions in their actual regions) and the removal of windward, Oahu teams can choose to attend any regional on the island. Highlands Intermediate and LCC are actually within 3 miles within each other.
