Mason's response in 2020 to losing arguably their strongest class ever (the classes of '18 and '19 were both loaded with talent) was not as stellar as the season before. They found themselves in 8th place at [[MIT]], and the Ohio state tournament was cancelled before Mason could rebound from that disappointing showing.

Mason High School is a Division C team that competes in Ohio's Cincinnati regional tournament. It is a perennial qualifier for the Ohio state tournament and a nationally competitive team, first reaching the National tournament in 2018.

Background

Mason High School is located in Mason, OH.

Beginning in the 2013 season, under the captainship of jhsun and Scientia, Mason's goal was to place in the top 2 Ohio teams and qualify to the National Tournament. Due to extremely strong competition with Solon, Mentor, and Centerville, this was not realized until 2018, when Mason won their first ever state title at the 2018 Ohio State Tournament and went on to place 2nd at SONT 2018, held at Colorado State University.

The 2018-19 team rebounded from the loss of a talented senior class with another strong season, finishing second at SOUP and taking 4th place at SONT 2019. For the 2020 season, Mason remained in tight competition with other Ohio schools, but due to COVID, the season came to a close after both teams scored identically at Regionals.

Moving into the nearly-exclusively virtual 2020-2021 season, the team was determined to rise again. Mason won 1st place at SONT 2021 by 55 points, the largest margin of victory in Division C since 2013. They received 12 medals out of the 18 events run, as well as another 3 in trial events. Their team score of 120 was the lowest in the modern history of the National Tournament (since the present golf-like scoring method was adopted), even when scaled to 23 events.
