Missouri is a state with a long history of participation in Science Olympiad, having hosted teams since 1987.
Missouri is a very competitive state, with numerous competitive teams. The state used to send two teams from each division to nationals from 1989~2017. In 2018, the introduction of new states to Science Olympiad resulted in Missouri being reduced to one bid for nationals.

 +
Missouri has sent teams to the National Tournament since 1987, with Pembroke Hill Middle School representing the state in Division B. Ladue Horton Watkins High School would receive their first bid the following year in 1988. Though Oak Park High School and Plattsburg Junior High School would see a fair bit of dominance in the 1990s and early 2000s, Ladue and Pembroke Hill have been dominant in the state through its entire history.

 +
The state sent two teams from each division to the National Tournament from 1989 to 2017, with the state losing one bid in both divisions for the 2018 season. However, during the 2021 season, the state regained its second bid in Division B. Starting from that season, Missouri sends two Division B teams and one Division C team to the National Tournament. In 2023, Idaho and South Dakota gave up their bids to the 2023 National Tournament, which allowed Missouri to send a second team in both divisions.
 +

 +
Missouri teams in Division B tend to fare well at the National Tournament, often netting top-20 finishes. The best finish from a Missouri team in Division B was New Mark Middle School's 5th place finish at the 2000 National Tournament, and the most recent top 10 finish from a Missouri team in Division B was Ladue Middle School's 8th place finish at the 2014 National Tournament. Ladue won the Corteva Enterprise Award with their 11th place finish at the 2019 National Tournament (after not attending in 2018), but their performance still wasn't enough to break into the top 10.
 +

 +
In Division C, Missouri typically sees lower average placements at the National Tournament than Division B with Division C teams typically placing in the mid-20s or low 30s. The best finish from a Missouri Team in Division C was Pembroke Hill High School's 3rd place finish at the 1996 National Tournament, and the most recent top 10 finish from a Missouri team in Division C was Oak Park High School's 5th place at the 2001 National Tournament.

History
+
The Missouri State Tournament is currently hosted at Missouri State University in Springfield, the same host as the Southwest Missouri Regional. From 2015 to 2020, the state tournament was to be held at Westminster College in Fulton, MO. In 2021 the tournament was online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, though in 2022 Missouri State University was able to host its first in-person state tournament. Prior to 2015, the state tournament was hosted at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO.

Missouri teams tend to fare strongly at the national tournament, often netting top-20 finishes. Throughout Missouri Science Olympiad's history, the school districts of Ladue and Pembroke Hill have typically dominated the state competition.
+
Missouri has only hosted the national tournament once--the 1991 National Tournament was held at Penn Valley Community College (now known as Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley) in Kansas City, MO.

Missouri is a state with a long history of participation in Science Olympiad, having hosted teams since 1987.

History

Missouri has sent teams to the National Tournament since 1987, with Pembroke Hill Middle School representing the state in Division B. Ladue Horton Watkins High School would receive their first bid the following year in 1988. Though Oak Park High School and Plattsburg Junior High School would see a fair bit of dominance in the 1990s and early 2000s, Ladue and Pembroke Hill have been dominant in the state through its entire history.

Missouri has only hosted the national tournament once--the 1991 National Tournament was held at Penn Valley Community College (now known as Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley) in Kansas City, MO.
