The [[2020]] [[National Tournament]] was scheduled to be held on May 15-16, 2020 at North Carolina State University. It was cancelled due to concerns of COVID-19 (the coronavirus), making it the first National Tournament in Science Olympiad history to be cancelled due to a disease outbreak. In the following days, the vast majority of states [[2019-20_Coronavirus_outbreak|cancelled their state tournaments]] if they had not already.

Science Olympiad also controversially announced that it would replay the exact same rules in the 2020-2021 season. The 2020 National Tournament was scheduled to be held on May 15-16, 2020 at North Carolina State University. It was cancelled due to concerns of COVID-19 (the coronavirus), making it the first National Tournament in Science Olympiad history to be cancelled due to a disease outbreak. In the following days, the vast majority of states cancelled their state tournaments if they had not already.

Science Olympiad also controversially announced that it would replay the exact same rules in the 2020-2021 season. This has sparked a furious debate on the Forums, with many current competitors strongly disliking the replaying of events. This is also the first time that Science Olympiad replayed the exact same events in back to back years. The 2020-2021 National Tournament will be held at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona.
