Piedmont IB Middle School is a Division B powerhouse school from Charlotte, North Carolina.
The program was started in 2010. The program had instant success as the team advanced from regionals to the NC State Competition.
In 2011, Piedmont placed 2nd at states and made it to the national competition in Wisconsin, placing 32nd.
In 2012, Piedmont placed 1st at the North Carolina state competition and placed 20th in the nation at the University of Central Florida.
In 2013, Piedmont placed 2nd at states and placed 23rd in the nation at Wright State University.
In 2014, Piedmont placed 1st and set a record low point total of 96 points at States. At the national competition at the University of Central Florida , Piedmont placed 9th in the nation.
In 2015, Piedmont placed 1st at States, with 57 points (breaking their previous record low of 96 points). In Lincoln, Nebraska for the 2015 National Science Olympiad Tournament, Piedmont placed 4th overall with a total of 296 points, and received 10 national medals including 2 Gold Medals in the events Simple Machines and Solar System. Piedmont Middle School has been a repeat champion in Simple Machines in 2014 and 2015.
In 2016, Piedmont placed 1st at States, 13th at the Nationals Competition, earning 1st place in the nation at Crime Busters.
In 2017, Piedmont placed 1st at States, 7th at the Nationals Competition, earning 8 individual medals, including 1st place in Crime Busters, Dynamic Planet, and Hovercraft.
In 2018, Piedmont placed 1st at States, 6th at the Nationals Competition, earning 9 individual medals, including 1st place in Crime Busters. Piedmont was 3rd time repeating champion in Crime Busters.
