I have been competing in Science Olympiad for 2 years (including this year) at [[Jay M. Robinson Middle School]]. I was on JMR's Junior Varsity team in the 2018-2019 Season. I am hoping for a spot in the Varsity team this year as I progress through my competitions. My consistency (average) of medals throughout the 2018-2019 Season was 7.125. This year, so far my consistency of medals is 4.000.

Robinson Middle School]]'s JV team at the [[Charlotte Regional|Charlotte Regional]] once again, however did significantly better. Unfortunately, the NC [[North Carolina|State]] and [[North Carolina State University 2020|National]] competitions were both cancelled due to the impact of COVID-19.

This was my first year competing in Science Olympiad. When I first walked in for practice, I felt that this was too much for me and I couldn't understand anything that was going on. I almost decided to quit, but I persevered and started to learn the material for my events myself instead since I didn't quite understand what was going on. As I started to study the material for my events, I started to better understand everything that was going on. At my first invitational, I really didn't know what to expect, so I didn't end up doing so well and didn't really contribute all that much. However, as I went to more and more competitions, I started to contribute more instead of not doing much. This was a good first year for me, and it could've been better, as I didn't make the states team, but above all else this was a great season.

This was my second season competing in Science Olympiad. I ended up trying out for four events this year: [[Circuit Lab]], [[Crime Busters]], [[Density Lab]], and [[Food Science]]. Unfortunately, I didn't do as well as I thought I would on the tryout and ended up not being picked to be on the main team and didn't make [[Food Science]]. At my first invitational of the season, I won one 3rd place medal for [[Crime Busters]], which I didn't expect at all. I then ended up getting a 6th place medal for [[Circuit Lab]] and a 2nd place medal for [[Crime Busters]] at the 2020 [[Chattahoochee Invitational]]. During the [[O'Neal Invitational]], I got two 2nd place medals, one for [[Circuit Lab]] and [[Density Lab]], and one 1st place medal for [[Crime Busters]]. Our team ended up winning the invitational by a landslide, as even our secondary team and third team both placed in the top 5, the secondary team taking the 2nd place spot and the third team taking the 5th. [[Piedmont Invitational|Piedmont]] didn't end up too well, however. I did get one 2nd place medal in [[Crime Busters]], but was disqualified in [[Density Lab]] due to a miscommunication/misunderstanding which was taken the wrong way. I was feeling a bit upset that I ended back up back on the JV team for the [[Charlotte Regional]], but I was determined to do well. At the day of the competition, after each of my events, I didn't feel like I did well and considered leaving before the awards ceremony even started, but I ended up actually doing quite well and received two 1st places and one 3rd place. This taught me a lesson to never underestimate yourself and your capabilities, because they may surprise you. This season was really good, but I felt that all the upcoming competitions being cancelled due to COVID-19 was a sad ending to the story. I am sure looking forward to what next season brings though!

I have been and still am competing in Science Olympiad as a student at Jay M. Robinson Middle School. The events I currently compete in are Circuit Lab, Crime Busters, and Density Lab. In the 2018-19 season, I competed for Jay M. Robinson Middle School's JV team at the Charlotte Regional. In the 2019-20 season, I competed for Jay M. Robinson Middle School's JV team at the Charlotte Regional once again, however did significantly better. Unfortunately, the NC State and National competitions were both cancelled due to the impact of COVID-19.
