Primitivepolonium (aka JY) is a SciOly forums user. She hails from Troy High School, located in Fullerton, CA. She competed for the B team for her first two years, and was then promoted to the nationals-bound A team for the last two. Her events mainly center around chemistry ones, but in the quest to secure a spot on the Troy A team, she has dabbled in others. Through her four years of Division C, JY has participated in Chemistry Lab, Dynamic Planet, Protein Modeling, Picture This, Material Science, Technical Problem Solving, Experimental Design, Fermi Questions, and Forensics.
The first three events are ones she likes to reflect on fondly. Her enthusiasm drops sharply as the list continues.
In 2016, JY became too old for Troy High School and was thus forced to graduate. Currently, she is a senior at MIT in Massachusetts, double majoring in chemical engineering and chemistry. At MIT, she has been heavily involved in the organization of MIT Science Olympiad, being Events Director for two years. But after three years of Forensics setup and sending emails, she has redirected her efforts to events supervising.
Her fondest memories of Science Olympiad include:
- supervising and discussing science with Div C competitors
- working with other Div D friends to put on tournaments
- getting 22nd in Experimental Design at States
- being on the 4th place team at Nationals 2016
- trying to figure out how Mira Loma scheduled all THREE of her events in the same time slot in 2015
- explaining to her new impromptu Dynamic Partner what he needed to study and staying up until 3 AM before MIT Invitationals 2015 because her original partner fell extremely ill and was unable to attend

Total Medal Count
JY has a tendency to forget about her medals, save for those she earned at Nationals, MIT, and during her second year on Troy B (which she only remembers because she repeatedly beat Troy A). Since SoCal States results are fairly accessible, those results are given, but Regionals and Troy Invites medals are not listed for her A team years. In that regards, this is going to be somewhat incomplete.
Assume she earned at least 2 medals at Orange County Regionals in 2015 and 2016, at least 1 of which are 1st place unless an event was thrown out. Unless otherwise stated, Troy got first place.
Let us have a moment of silence for the Iolani Online Invitational. It was amazing while it lasted :'(
