Churchill has a long history of success in Science Olympiad, placing in the top 2 at Regionals and [[California (North)|NorCals]] year in and year out.  The program was started in the late 1980s and has racked up numerous nationals appearances.  Several of those were in the late 80s and early 90s with coach Bob Wofford at the helm and more recently 3 times under head coach Jeff Jungk.  Jungk is a science teacher at Churchill and has coached the team for the past 10 years.  He receives assistance and support from other staff members, parents and community members.

In 2011, Churchill A team placed 2nd at Regionals by only 2 points. At state, the A Team took 1st place, beating Arden (who got 2nd place at Nationals the previous year) by 18 points! Churchill then went to Nationals, getting 8th place overall with 6 medals.

In 2012, Churchill competed for the first time in invitationals at Camas and Muscatel. The A Team won the regional competition in March and the B Team took second place. The A Team went on to compete at the NorCal State competition in Visalia taking first place with tough competetion from Elkhorn MS.  At the National competition in Orlando, Churchill placed fourth in the nation, with 11 medals, three of which were golds (Keep the Heat, Write It Do It, Rocks and Minerals)At nationals 2012, Churchill earned more gold medals than any other school.  Woof woof!
 
 
 
In 2013, Churchill fielded an A, B, C and D team at regionals.  The A team won and the B was second.  At NorCal finals Churchill won by a large 60 point margin over Kennedy MS from the Bay Area.  At Nationals the team took 5th place with 6 medals including a gold in reach for the stars.
