Winston Churchill Middle School is a public school in the San Juan Unified School District located in the Sacramento area. It attracts many students due to having the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, an academically rigorous program that aims to create a better world through education. Winston Churchill is a feeder school to Mira Loma High School, which is located just a couple of blocks away and also has the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
 
  
Churchill has a long history of success with Sci Oly placing in the top 2 at regionals and NorCals year in and year out.  The program was started in the late 1980s and has racked up 11 total nationals appearances. 9 of those were in the late 80s and early 90s with coach Bob Wofford at the helm and more recently 2 times under co-head coaches Jeff Jungk and Robert Sherriff.  Science teachers Jungk and Sherriff have coached the team for past 8 years and receive assistance and support from other staff members, parents and community members.

At the 2009 regional competition, Churchill's A and B teams got 1st and 2nd -- the A team had 220 points, B team had around 190 points.  This is the first time since the history of a school being able to have two teams (at the Sac regional competition) that any two teams from the same school have placed first and second.

In 2012, Churchill competed for the first time in invitationals at Camas and Muscatel. The A Team won the regional competition in March and the B Team took second place. The A Team went on to compete at the NorCal State competition in Visalia taking first place with tough competetion from Elkhorn MS.  At the National competition in Orlando, Churchill placed fourth in the nation, with 11 medals, three of which were golds (Keep the Heat, Write It Do It, Rocks and Minerals). At nationals 2012, Churchill earned more gold medals than any other school.  Woof woof!
