Winston Churchill Middle School
Winston Churchill has been the underdog from Arden Middle School for quite some time. Arden has won NorCal championships for 7 consecutive years and Churchill has usually been the runner-up. At regional competitions, however, Churchill is sometimes able to beat out Arden (though it is usually a very close call.)
For example, at the 2009 regional competition, Churchill's A and B teams got 1st and 2nd -- the A team had 220 points, B team had around 190 points and Arden's A team came in 3rd with about 186 points. This is the first time since the history of a school being able to have two teams (at the Sac regional competition) that any two teams from the same school have placed first and second.
In 2010, Churchill had three teams (A, B, and C) for the first time. The A team placed 2nd at regionals, losing to Arden by only 1 point! At state, the A team lost by a considerate margin to Arden.
In 2011, Churchill A team placed 2nd at Regionals by only 2 points. At state, the A Team got 1st place, beating Arden (who got 2nd place at Nationals last year) by 18 points!! Churchill is now going to Nationals!
